I have started my Level 3 and Level 4 Pilates teacher training through Future Fit. As part of my registration process I had to disclose any medical issues and adjustments that may be required for my practical workshops. So of course I let them know about my fibromyalgia (that’s easy and was covered off on my PAR-Q, and since I have been doing Pilates for the last 4 years there won’t be any issues) and about Amani.
Tom, from Learner support, sent me an email, which you can read above in the feature photo. I’ll be honest when I at first glance saw “However, unlike service animals, emotional support animals do not receive the same kind of legal recognition in the UK.” I was immediately triggered. I tried to call them straight away but the hold time was going to be too long so I went back to the email to reply. Before I did though I took time to properly read the full email. And I was pleasantly surprised.
I agree that emotional support animals don’t have the same kind of recognition as service or assistance animals but they do have the same legal protections. This is why I advocate so much and try and educate as many people as I can.
Future Fit are the first organisation that I have dealt with who, while ESA’s aren’t as recognised, asked for proof that I need Amani with me. I am always more than happy to provide this. Not only that but they actually quoted the correct website for the Emotional Support Animal Registry UK which is also a first.
A small step forward in the acceptance and understanding of the need for emotional support animals feels HUGE for me especially after the last few weeks of mental anguish I have been through and the battle last year with Haslemere Hall.
So thank you Future Fit. And to anyone wanting to do any sort of Health, Fitness & Nutrition training I highly recommend checking them out.
